Frequently asked questions

A note before you read

Nothing on this page replaces the confirmation you receive at booking. Price, rental period, container size and delivery timing depend on the job, and we settle them with you by phone. Rules about permits come from your city or county, so check with the local authority for your address. Our blog goes deeper on several of these topics if you want more detail.

Still deciding? Talk to Genesee Dumpster Rentals about your project.

What can I put in a dumpster?

Typical loads include household clutter, furniture, flooring, drywall, cabinets, roofing material and yard debris. The right mix depends on the container and the job, so tell us what you plan to load. Heavy materials affect capacity, and weight limits are confirmed when you call.

What items are not allowed?

Never put paint, chemicals, batteries, tires or asbestos in a dumpster. These are hazardous and need a proper disposal program. Ask us about anything else you doubt before it goes in, so a prohibited item does not cause a problem at pickup.

Where do I take household hazardous waste?

Monroe County's ecopark takes household hazardous waste, but an appointment is required and the drop-off is for Monroe County residents only. Walk-ins are turned away. Contact the county to book a slot, and keep these items out of your rental container.

Can I throw away a mattress or box spring?

Mattresses and box springs are not recyclable curbside or at ecopark, according to Monroe County. Because they can be a special case, tell us before you load them. We will explain what applies to your rental so you are not surprised later.

How do I pick the right dumpster size?

Think about the type of project and the volume of material, then compare the options on our sizes page. General guidance only: dimensions and weight limits are confirmed when you call. If you are torn between two sizes, describe your debris and we will help you decide.

Is there a way to estimate how much I will fill?

Walk through the space and list the largest items first, since bulky pieces use the most room. Then add the loose material. Estimating is easier when you separate heavy debris from light household items. Our guide to garage cleanouts shows one way to sort.

Where can the dumpster be placed?

Most people choose a driveway. You need a firm, level area with room for the truck to deliver and later pick up the container, and clear space overhead. If you are worried about the surface, tell us when you book so we can talk through options.

Can the dumpster go on the street?

Possibly, but street placement may need a city or county permit. Check with your local authority before delivery, and ask who issues it and how long it lasts. We do not state permit fees. If the permit is not in place, tell us before the delivery date.

Do I need a permit for a driveway placement?

Often not, but rules differ by municipality and by neighborhood association, so confirm for your address. A short call to your local office or your homeowners association usually settles it. Our permit guide lists the questions to ask.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

The rental period is confirmed at booking and depends on the job. Give us your start date and an honest estimate of how long the work will take. If the project runs long, contact us early and we will talk through what is possible.

How do I book?

Call (585) 440-5814 or start a live chat on the website. Share your address, the debris and when you want delivery. We confirm size, rental period, price and timing with you before anything is scheduled.

How much does a rental cost?

Price depends on the job, so we confirm it when you call. Container size, the type of debris, your location and the rental period can all play a part. Our article on cost factors explains what shapes a quote.

Do you serve my town?

We deliver to Rochester, Greece, Irondequoit, Henrietta, Brighton, Gates, Chili, Webster, Penfield, Pittsford, Fairport and East Rochester. See the service areas page, and call us with your address if you are near a boundary.

Can I use a dumpster for roofing debris?

Yes, roofing tear-off is a common use. It is heavy, so tell us about the roof when you call and we will help plan the container. Read the roofing guide before your crew arrives.
